2. Information We Collect
We collect information about you in three ways: information you provide directly, information we collect automatically, and information we receive from third parties.

- Device type, operating system version, and general location based on IP address
- Information about how you navigate and use the App
"Metadata" Does NOT Include:
- Your email address or password
- Direct messages or private communications with other users
- Payment information (if applicable in the future)
- Precise geolocation data
- Your private thoughts or personal notes
- Sensitive identifying information (SSN, financial account numbers, etc.)
We use the term "metadata" frequently because it represents the core activity data we collect to operate the App and personalize your experience.

2.2 Information Collected Automatically
When you use Uncook, we automatically collect certain information about your device and activity:
- Device Information: The type of device you use (iPhone or Android), your operating system version, device identifiers (such as IDFA on iOS or Google Advertising ID on Android), and device settings
- Log Data: Your Internet Protocol (IP) address, the time and date of your app activity, the features you access, the content you interact with, and your general location based on IP address
- Usage Data: Information about how you use the App, including the recipes you view, the videos you watch, accounts you follow, content you like or comment on, time spent on the App, and features you use
- Location Data: We do not currently collect location data
- Cookies and Similar Technologies: We use cookies, pixel tags, and similar tracking technologies to remember your preferences, track your activity, and personalize your experience. You can control some of these through your device settings
2.3 Information from Third Parties
We may receive information about you from:
- Social Login Providers: If you register or log in using Apple ID or Google, we receive your profile information from that service
- Advertising Partners: Information about your interactions with ads served by third-party ad networks
- Analytics Providers: Aggregated usage data and analytics from services that help us understand how users interact with our App
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide and Maintain the App: Create your account, process your login, store your recipes and videos, deliver the core features you expect, and keep the App running smoothly

- Enable Social Features: Let you follow other users, comment on their content, receive notifications about interactions, and build your cooking community
- Power AI Assistant Features: Provide cooking tips, recipe recommendations, ingredient substitution suggestions, and other AI-powered cooking guidance (see Section 4 for details)
- Communicate with You: Send you service updates, announcements about features, responses to your support requests, and marketing communications if you've opted in
- Personalize Advertising: Show you ads tailored to your interests, cooking preferences, and activity on the App to provide more relevant advertising
- Generate Marketing Reports: Create aggregated, de-identified insights about user trends, popular recipes, cooking preferences, and engagement patterns that we may sell to third parties (see Section 5.2)
- Ensure Safety and Security: Detect, prevent, and address fraud, security breaches, abuse, and other malicious or prohibited activities
- Comply with Legal Obligations: Respond to legal requests, law enforcement inquiries, and court orders
We will not use your information for purposes other than those described in this policy without first obtaining your consent.
4. AI Assistant Data Practices
Uncook includes an optional AI-powered assistant that provides cooking-related guidance, powered by DigitalOcean Gradient.
How the AI Assistant Collects Data
When you interact with the AI Assistant, we collect:
- Your questions and requests to the AI Assistant
- The AI Assistant's responses to you
- Information about which AI features you use
This data is stored only on Uncook servers - see below for details about our AI provider's data handling.
Storage and Retention of Conversation History
Your conversation history is stored in Uncook systems while your account is active. We retain conversation history to:
- Provide contextualized and relevant responses in future conversations
- Track patterns in your preferences and interests
- Improve the accuracy and helpfulness of the AI Assistant over time
- Understand which cooking topics and recipe types interest you
Important: DigitalOcean Gradient (our AI provider) does NOT store, retain, or access your conversation data. See Section 5.2 of the AI Disclaimer for details.
How We Use AI Data
We use your AI interactions stored on Uncook servers to:
- Provide better cooking recommendations tailored to your preferences
- Improve the accuracy and helpfulness of the AI Assistant over time
- Understand which cooking topics and recipe types interest you
- Enhance the overall quality of AI-powered features
Data Sharing: We do not share your AI conversation data with third parties for training or improvement purposes. DigitalOcean Gradient only receives real-time requests for inference and does not retain the data.
Your Controls Over AI Data
You can:
- Choose not to use the AI Assistant
- Request deletion of your conversation history by contacting [email protected]
- Delete your entire account, which automatically deletes all associated AI conversation history
Deletion Process: When you request deletion of your AI conversation history, we delete it from Uncook systems within 7 days. Since DigitalOcean Gradient does not retain conversation data, no additional deletion is required from the AI provider.
Currently, there is no in-app control to delete conversation history; requests must be made via email to [email protected].
5. How We Share Your Information
5.1 Public Sharing
Your recipes, cooking videos, profile information (name, profile picture, bio), and comments are shared publicly on the App. This means:
- Any user of the App can view your recipes and videos
- Your content may be shared, referenced, or discussed by other users
- Search engines may index your public profile and content
- Your content may be visible to people who don't have Uncook accounts if they access the App through shared links
By posting content to Uncook, you understand and consent to this public sharing.
5.2 Third-Party Sharing
We share certain information with third parties to operate the App and support our business:
Advertising Partners: We share metadata about your activity on Uncook (recipes you create, videos you post, accounts you follow, content you like) with advertising partners and ad networks. This enables us to show you personalized ads. We do not share your name, email, or account credentials with advertisers, but we do share anonymized and de-identified activity data.
Analytics Providers: We share usage data (which features you use, how long you spend on the App, which content you interact with) with third-party analytics services to help us understand how users engage with Uncook and improve the App.
Marketing Reports: We may aggregate and de-identify your metadata to create insights about user trends, popular recipes, cooking preferences, and engagement patterns. These aggregated reports may be sold to third parties, including food brands, recipe platforms, cooking equipment manufacturers, and media companies. These reports do not identify you personally.
Service Providers: We share certain information with service providers who help us operate the App, including:
- Cloud hosting providers (to store your data and serve the App)
- Payment processors (if applicable)
- Email and customer support services
- Security and fraud prevention services
These service providers are contractually obligated to use your information only as necessary to provide services to Uncook.
Legal Requirements and Safety: We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or government request. We may also disclose information when necessary to:
- Protect the safety and security of Uncook users
- Enforce our Terms of Service and other agreements
- Prevent fraud or abuse
- Protect our legal rights and the rights of others
5.3 Business Transfers
If Uncook is involved in a merger, acquisition, bankruptcy, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will provide notice before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
6. Advertising and Tracking
Types of Ads
Uncook is supported by advertising. You will see ads:
- On recipe detail pages
- Between video posts in your feed
- In other locations throughout the App
How Ads Are Personalized
We personalize ads based on:
- Your recipe interests and cooking preferences
- The videos you watch and content you engage with
- Your activity and interactions on the App
- Your device metadata and general location (based on IP address)
We currently use Google AdMob to serve and personalize ads.
Distinguishing Your Opt-Out Options
We offer three separate opt-out mechanisms because they control different things:
1. Marketing Communications (Promotional Emails & Messages)
- What it is: Emails, in-app notifications, and push notifications from Uncook about new features, tips, recipes, and app updates
- How to opt out: Click "Unsubscribe" in any marketing email OR disable marketing notifications in Uncook App settings under Preferences > Notifications
- Effect: You will no longer receive promotional messages from Uncook. You will still see ads in the app.
2. Personalized Advertising (Interest-Based Ads)
- What it is: Ads tailored to your interests based on your activity and preferences on the App
- How to opt out:
- On iOS: Settings > Privacy > Apple Advertising, enable "Personalized Ads Off"
- On Android: Google Settings > Ads > "Opt out of Ads Personalization"
- Within Uncook: Settings > Privacy > limit personalized ads
- Effect: You will still see ads, but they will not be based on your activity. Ads will be generic/contextual rather than personalized to you.
3. Data Sharing for Advertising (California Residents Only)
- What it is: Sharing your activity data with third-party advertisers and advertising networks
- How to opt out: Email [email protected] with subject "California Opt Out of Sale/Sharing" to request opt-out from data sharing for advertising purposes
- Effect: We will not share your metadata with third-party advertisers. You will still see ads, but they will not be personalized to you.
Important: Even if you opt out of personalized advertising, you will still see ads on Uncook because advertising funds the free app. Opting out just makes ads less relevant to your interests.
Do Not Track Signals
Some browsers and devices include Do Not Track features. Because there is no uniform standard for how Do Not Track signals work, the Uncook App does not respond differently to Do Not Track signals. You can use the opt-out methods described above to control personalized advertising.
7. Data Retention & Account Deletion
We retain your information for different periods depending on the type of data and why we collected it.
Account Information Upon Deletion
When you delete your account, we process your data as follows:
Your Profile & Identifying Information (Deleted Immediately):
- Your username and profile information are removed immediately
- Your account no longer appears in search results
- Your email and password are deleted
- Processing of remaining data may take up to 30 days
Your User-Generated Content (Recipes, Videos, Posts) - Engagement-Based Handling:
Content is treated differently based on engagement level:
NO ENGAGEMENT (content with zero likes, comments, or shares):
- Deleted permanently within 30 days
- All associated images and videos removed
- No trace remains on the platform
- Content license terminates
WITH ENGAGEMENT (content that received likes, comments, or shares):
- Content remains available on the App indefinitely
- Your username and profile information are removed from the content
- Content is attributed to "Anonymous Contributor"
- The content license you granted to Uncook (ToS Section 3.1) survives account deletion and applies to the anonymized content
- You cannot be identified as the creator
Manual Deletion Option: You can manually delete individual posts before deleting your account if you want them fully removed.
California Residents (CCPA Right to Delete): This engagement-based anonymization process satisfies the California Consumer Privacy Act "Right to Delete" because your personal information is removed from your content. Once anonymized, the content is no longer "personal information" in a way that identifies you.
Usage and Analytics Data
We retain usage data and analytics (features used, content viewed, time spent) for 12 months. After this period, we delete or aggregate this data so it cannot identify you.
AI Assistant Conversation History
We retain AI conversation history in our systems until you delete your account or request deletion. When your account is deleted, all associated conversation history is also deleted from Uncook systems. See Section 4 for information about third-party AI provider data retention.
You can request deletion of your AI conversation history at any time by contacting [email protected]. We will delete it from our systems within 7 days.
Legal Obligations & Data Retention Exceptions
We may retain certain information longer if required by law or to enforce our agreements, even after you request deletion:
- Transaction records: 7 years (tax and financial law compliance)
- DMCA takedown notices and counter-notices: Indefinitely (17 U.S.C. § 512)
- Law enforcement data preservation requests: Duration specified in the preservation request
- Records related to pending litigation or investigations: Until the matter is resolved
- Account activity logs for fraud prevention: 1 year
- IP addresses and device IDs for security: 1 year
- Ban/suspension records (to prevent re-registration): Indefinitely
- Aggregated, de-identified analytics data: Indefinitely (cannot identify you)
8. Your Rights and Choices
8.1 Rights Available to All Users
Regardless of where you live, you have the following rights:
Access Your Data: You can request a copy of the personal information we hold about you by contacting [email protected]. We will provide this information in a portable, easy-to-understand format within 30 days.
Correct Your Data: If any information in your account is inaccurate or incomplete, you can correct it directly in your Uncook account settings, or contact us to help you update it.
Delete Your Account: You can delete your account at any time through the Uncook App settings. Your profile will be deleted immediately. Your user-generated content will be handled according to Section 7 (some content will be deleted, some may remain with your name removed). Deletion processing may take up to a week to complete fully. To request complete deletion of your data (subject to legal exceptions), contact [email protected].
Opt Out of Marketing Communications: You can opt out of promotional emails and marketing messages by clicking "Unsubscribe" in any marketing email or by adjusting your notification preferences in the App settings.
Manage Notification Preferences: You can control which notifications you receive (likes, comments, new followers, etc.) through your App settings.
Control AI Assistant Data: You can request deletion of your AI conversation history at any time by contacting [email protected]. Currently, there is no in-app control to delete conversation history.
8.2 California Residents (CCPA/CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you have the following additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA):
Right to Know: You have the right to know what personal information we have collected about you, the sources of that information, our purposes for using it, and the categories of third parties we share it with.
Right to Delete: You have the right to request deletion of the personal information we have collected from you, subject to certain exceptions (such as information needed to provide the App or comply with legal obligations). Note: Deletion of user-generated content is governed by Section 7; the content license survives account deletion.
Right to Opt Out of Sale or Sharing: We do not sell your personal information in the traditional sense (we don't exchange it for money). However, we do share metadata (such as your recipe interests, cooking preferences, and activity data) with advertising partners and may sell aggregated, de-identified insights in marketing reports. Under the CPRA, this "sharing" for advertising purposes may be considered a "sale" or "sharing." You have the right to opt out:
- Opt Out of Targeted Advertising: Use the methods described in Section 6 to opt out of personalized ads
- Opt Out of Marketing Report Sales: Contact [email protected] to request opt-out from de-identified data use in marketing reports. Please note that we may deny this request if it substantially interferes with our business model.
Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights. We will not deny you services, charge you different rates, or provide you with a lower quality of service because you exercise any of these rights. However, we may provide incentives for data collection if permitted by law.
Right to Correct Inaccurate Information: You have the right to request correction of inaccurate personal information.
Right to Limit Use: You have the right to limit how we use sensitive personal information, though we may still need certain data to provide the App.
